EPSiT

Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Treatment

Discover the technique via video.

This acronym refers to Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Treatment, which in Portuguese means Endoscopic Treatment for Pilonidal Cyst.

Classified as a minimally invasive method, the procedure is performed with the aid of a thin optical instrument (fistuloscope) connected to a video and irrigation system with a hypertonic solution, allowing visualization of all content. This material is removed using foreign body grasping forceps and destroyed by cauterization. In this way, it is possible to clean all the contents of the cyst and cauterize its walls without opening it.

This intervention results in greatly reduced postoperative wounds (approximately 2cm or less), with complete healing occurring in approximately 15 days (this may vary from patient to patient). Like all minimally invasive surgery, it has the advantages of faster recovery, less post-operative pain, early return to daily activities and faster healing.

Another acronym referring to the technique is VAAFT - Video Assisted Anal Fistula Treatment - applied to another proctological disease called Anal Fistula, so when we say EPSiT or VAAFT we are talking about the same device.
